During the 2012-2013 academic year, the Pulitzer Center began partnerships with several departments at the University of Pennsylvania. In the fall, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Salopek visited campus to discuss his Pulitzer Center-supported "Out of Eden" project. Penn's Graduate Student Center hosted his visit, co-sponsored by the Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL) at the Wharton School. In the spring, the Africa Center collaborated with the Pulitzer Center on a story-telling workshop led by Pulitzer Center grantee Jina Moore. The first Penn-Pulitzer Center international reporting fellows began their assignments in Africa in summer 2013.

In 2014 the South Asia Center and Middle East Center launched a 4-year initiative with the Pulitzer Center to host journalists on campus and support international reporting fellowships. Pulitzer Center grantee, Callum Macrae, will visit campus this spring to show and discuss his film "No Fire Zone: In the Killing Fields of Sri Lanka."

The South Asia Center and the Middle East Center at the University of Pennsylvania coordinate faculty and students drawn from many departments and several schools who develop and participate in community and campus-wide programs and activities pertaining to South Asia and the Middle East. They are funded as National Resource Centers by the US Department of Education and by the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania.
