High Point University's mission is to deliver educational experiences that enlighten, challenge and prepare students to lead lives of significance in complex global communities. Its 3,300 students come from more than 45 states and more than 50 countries, and find a typical student-to-faculty ratio (day program) of 14 to 1. The University opened originally less than 100 years ago as High Point College as a cooperative venture between the Methodist Protestant Church and the City of High Point, NC. High Point University is one of three North Carolina institutions of higher education to join together to form a partnership within the Campus Consortium to serve students in the Triad region.

In 2007, the University announced it was doubling its investment in academic programs, student life, scholarships and construction of new facilities, with the campus transformation made possible through gifts, bonds and operating revenues. Its new state-of-the-art Nido R. Qubein School of Communication houses the University's five communication-based majors: Electronic Media Production, Games and Interactive Media Design, Journalism, Media and Popular Culture Studies, and Strategic Communication. Curriculum housed in the 60,000-square-foot school blends traditional liberal arts education and hands-on technical instruction with the latest communication technologies, taking academics far beyond the textbook and into the 'real world.'
