This post was originally published on September 1, 2021. It was updated on October 18, 2021.

The Pulitzer Center is now accepting applications for reporting fellowships focused on issues related to one of the following: Gender Equality, Justice, and Climate Science. Current students at our Campus Consortium partners and recent graduates (classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) are encouraged to apply.

Individuals may submit no more than one application. Applicants may propose projects on multiple platforms—text and/or multimedia, including video, audio, and documentary photography.

Selected winners will be awarded a $3,000 stipend. They will receive mentorship from the Pulitzer Center staff and grantees, network with professional reporters and editors, and participate in workshops to build journalism—virtually or in person, when feasible.

Before applying, please visit the Pulitzer Center website. You’ll see stories by Reporting Fellows and various resources.

If interested in submitting a proposal for a Gender Equality Fellowship, consider stories that elevate the voices of communities not often represented in the media, highlight resilience, and/or tackle systemic issues related to gender or women’s empowerment using data and investigative reporting. View related Pulitzer Center stories here on our issue pages for Women and LGBTQIA Rights. Applications with a global focus, as well as those related to the United States, will be accepted.

Justice Fellowship applicants may wish to consider the following: What constitutes criminal behavior and why? How do identity and circumstance play into the criminalization of individuals? What are the links between civil rights, human rights, education, and the environment? What protections are there for individuals seeking asylum or facing deportation? View related Pulitzer Center stories here on our Criminal Justice issue page. Applications with a global focus, as well as those related to the United States, will be accepted.

Applicants for the Climate Science Fellowship may want to focus on new scientific discoveries, changes in local atmospheric conditions, weather patterns, or their local biosphere; changes to your local coastlines, fisheries and marine life, parks and wilderness areas, water supplies or agricultural areas; health impacts related to climate change; and changes in the local environment caused by  state or local environmental regulations; and sustainable solutions. Applications must be related to the United States, but may also include an international component.

Deadlines

The deadline for applications is November 1, 2021, at 11:59 pm (Eastern Time). Selections will be announced on December 1, 2021. Reporting will take place in 2022.

Eligibility

Only current students and recent graduates (classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) of our Campus Consortium partner schools are eligible to apply.

Applications must include the following:
