Save the Date: 2021 Pulitzer Center Conference

Please set aside April 20-23 to join the Pulitzer Center for our 2021 Conference — this year we focus on the environment and the deeply reported projects we support around the globe.

What do we mean by the term “environment,” and how do journalists develop leads on underreported stories? What are some of the innovative or compelling approaches to reporting on environmental issues? What skills are needed to produce quality reporting today, from data journalism to better collaborative alliances among journalists across borders?

Our aim is to connect journalists, researchers, policymakers, educators, and the general public around these questions and the reporting of our journalist grantees. In past years, we have convened in Washington, D.C., but given the ongoing pandemic we're creating a virtual space for us all to meet at our conference. We’d like to especially welcome participation by our Campus Consortium network partners as well as other students and faculty from around the world. 

Speakers include:

Abrahm Lustgarten, ProPublica senior environmental reporter, Refugees from the Earth series on global climate migration created through a partnership between ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine, with support from the Pulitzer Center

Danielle Villasana, National Geographic explorer and The Everyday Projects Community Team member, Women on the Move for which the Pulitzer Center is the education partner

Wahyu Dhyatmika, Tempo Magazine editor-in-chief and Southeast Asia Rainforest Journalism Fund advisory committee member 

Sean Gallagher, photographer and filmmaker based in China specializing in coverage of climate change, biodiversity, and other global environmental problems

Carly Berlin, Southerly Magazine Gulf Coast correspondent, “How Louisiana Communities Are Navigating Hurricane Recovery During a Pandemic”

Edilma Prada Céspedes, Agenda Propia director and journalist, Defenders of the Sacred Hills and other Amazon Rainforest Journalism Fund projects
