Campus Consortium Reporting Fellowships Announced!

Students at Campus Consortium member schools were eligible to apply for reporting fellowships of up to $2,000 each and the opportunity to work with the Pulitzer Center staff on an international reporting project. Listed below are the inaugural winners for 2009 and previews of their projects.

Sara Peach, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill: Travel to Copenhagen and report on the United Nations Climate Change Conference with a focus on youth participation generally and the International Youth Delegation specifically.

Screening of Jennifer Redfearn's "Sun Come Up" 4/26, NYC

The American Museum of Natural History will screen Jennifer Redfearn's short work-in-progress video of "Sun Come Up," a documentary that follows the relocation of a community of climate change refugees living on a chain of low-lying islands in the South Pacific Ocean.

Ann Peters' talk on global coverage gap highlighted

Ann Peters, Director of Development and Outreach, spoke on the the gaps in international reporting and the Pulitzer Center's efforts to increase demand for this kind of journalism at The Information Valet Project's recent symposium, "From Gatekeeper to Information Valet: Work Plans for Sustaining Journalism." Ann Peters and Janeen Heath at IMPACT Conference March 5-8

This past weekend college student leaders from around the country convened for the Impact Conference at the University of Maryland, University College. Students attended various workshops and forums, including one organized by the Bonner Foundation and involving the Pulitzer Center. We shared our reporting resources and brainstormed with students on how they could educate themselves and their peers on global issues.

Pulitzer Center participates at We Media Miami conference

Pulitzer Center Executive Director Jon Sawyer spoke at this year's We Media conference in Miami. Jon's session, "Nonprofit World: Endowed Journalism," featured Ellen Miller, Executive Director of the Sunlight Foundation, and was moderated by John Bracken of the MacArthur Foundation.

Become a photographer for peace

From Chico Peace and Justice Center:

March 6-7, 2009

This workshop primarily focused on the art of photography and addressed the technical issues of photography. It emphasized getting it right "in camera" as opposed to post-processing, but both were covered.

Another goal of this workshops is to teach what you need to know to effectively continue teaching yourself.
