Writing for Foreign Policy, Anna Nemtsova reports from her hometown of Nizhny Novgorod on the destruction of the 700-year old city's historic architecture. It's a personal subject for Nemtsova, whose father fought to protect the town center from the designs of Soviet planners as a Pravda reporter in the 1980s. She also shot the video above, which gives a sense of the heritage local activists are trying to preserve. Nemtsova is the Pulitzer Center's 2012 Persephone Miel fellow.
