A small group of people in the community Nueva Esperanza, on the outskirts of Lima, Peru, are creating a plantation in the desert. They're building mist traps to harvest water from perennial fog. With luck, they hope to create a forest and a better life.

Planet Earth's average temperature has risen about one degree Fahrenheit in the last fifty years. By the end of this century it will be several degrees higher, according to the latest climate research. But global warming is doing more than simply making things a little warmer.

The world’s glaciers are melting, but almost nothing is being done to slow the warming that is causing the problem. In some parts of the world, people are taking matters into their own hands.
