On the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, Pulitzer Center senior adviser Marvin Kalb led a distinguished panel of civil rights leaders, journalists and scholars in a discussion about the movement that changed the nation, and the the role of the press in the civil rights struggle.
As a young reporter for CBS News, Kalb was on the National Mall that day, covering Martin Luther King's historic "I Have a Dream" speech. Joining Kalb on the anniversary panel were NAACP chairman emeritus Julian Bond, U.S. Congressman John Lewis, former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, PBS NewsHour anchor Gwen Ifill, Morehouse College president John Wilson, and journalist Dorothy Gilliam, the first African American woman hired as a reporter at The Washington Post.
The Kalb Report
The 20th season of The Kalb Report focuses on "Why Journalism Matters in the Digital Age." The series is jointly produced by the National Press Club Journalism Institute, The George Washington University, Harvard University, University of Maryland University College (UMUC), and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. The series is underwritten by a grant from Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.
