Tristan McConnell is a freelance journalist based in Kenya. He is a correspondent for The Times (of London) and GlobalPost. He has also written for the New Statesman, the Africa Report, Esquire, New York magazine, the Virginia Quarterly Review and openDemocracy.
Tristan has covered conflicts in Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, reported on more than half a dozen African elections and been on assignment in 20 African countries.
In 2007 he was a finalist in the Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, and in 2008 was named 'Journalist of the Year' in the Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards.
