Latvia: Coping with Economic Collapse
More than 400 protesters blocked two bridges last week to oppose the closing of the only hospital in Bauska, a rural city (population 50,000) about an hour away from the capital Riga.
Riga's main daily newspaper Diena ran a front page graphic -- covering the entire page -- on May 12 stating that there has been an 18% drop in Latvia's GDP in the first quarter of 2009.
