In recognition of World Water Day on March 22, The Center for Strategic and International Studies and the WASH Advocacy Initiative are hosting a "World Water Day Learning Forum on Making Progress" on March 21.
Pulitzer Center executive director Jon Sawyer will moderate a panel that includes Marla Smith-Nilson (Water 1st), Kate Fogelberg (Water For People), Marc Manara (Acumen) and Susan Davis (Water For People).
The United Nations classifies March 22 as World Water Day to highlight water safety and sanitation issues around the world. The theme for this year is "Water for cities: responding to the urban challenge." For the first time in the human history, the majority of the world's population, 3.3 billion people, lives in cities. World Water Day 2011 focuses on how the rapid population growth in urban settings worldwide will affect governments and local communities in the future.
