Circus Without Borders screens in Palo Alto, California, on Saturday, October 17, as part of the 18th United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF).

Circus Without Borders follows Guillaume Saladin and Yamoussa Bangoura, "best friends and world-class acrobats from remote corners of the globe who share the same dream: To bring hope and change to their struggling communities through circus. Their dream unfolds in the Canadian Arctic and Guinea, West Africa, where they help Inuit and Guinean youth achieve unimaginable success while confronting suicide, poverty and despair," the documentary's website states.

Linda Matchan, the documentary's producer, is a Canadian-born documentary filmmaker and feature writer for The Boston Globe, and a Pulitzer Center grantee. She has a special interest in the Canadian Arctic and has reported on social issues affecting the Inuit for the Pulitzer Center. Director Susan Gray is an award-winning documentary film director, writer and producer who has produced documentary films for worldwide television broadcast, festivals and cinema, working from Europe, Africa and the United States. She is the director of broadcast development at Northern Light Productions.

With the participation of the Stanford Film Society and the UNA Midpeninsula Chapter, Stanford University educator and film critic Jasmina Bojic founded the UNAFF to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The 18th UNAFF will be held October 15-25, in Palo Alto, Stanford University, East Palo Alto and San Francisco. This year's theme, "Running Out of Time," continues the ongoing celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and focuses on time-sensitive aspects of the Millennium Development Goals.
