Global Communication Issues: Forum on Fracking at Kent State University

Pulitzer Center journalist Dimiter Kenarov shares findings from his reporting on the costs and benefits of shale gas, which he reported on from the United States and Europe, during Kent State University's Global Communication Issues Forum.

Kenarov will join Akron Beacon Journal environmental reporter and Kent State alum Bob Downing, and Kent State professors of geology, Donald F. Palmer and Yoram Eckstein, for a discussion on the global promises and dangers of shale gas extraction by the controversial method known as fracking.

Downing, who has been writing for the Akron Beacon Journal since 1972, has expertise in the areas of oil and the environment, and currently covers the environment, parks and outdoors sections for the paper. He graduated from Kent State and has taught journalism part-time at both Kent State and Cuyahoga Community College. Palmer is interim dean of the University's Honors College and is the former director of the Water Resources Research Institute at Kent State. Eckstein's research interests include general hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, and contaminant hydrogeology, and geothermics.
