In January 2017, a riot and massacre broke out at Alcaçuz Federal Penitentiary, one of Brazil's most notorious prisons. When two inmates make it out alive, their wives survive the ensuing trauma by leaning on each other. Freelance journalist Jill Langlois and documentary photographer Lianne Milton discuss the challenges they faced in reporting this story.
