The Pulitzer Center-Westchester Community College Campus Consortium is supported by a grant from the David and Katherine Moore Family Foundation. In partnership with the College's Communications, Journalism and Performing Arts Department, the initiative is focused on providing students opportunities to develop awareness of global issues, critical thinking capabilities, and vital skills in the context of news literacy and the creation and dissemination of news. The partnership aims to inspire, educate, and train journalists who can critically analyze and cover crises whether local or global.

The Journalism and Performing Arts Department features a new Communications & Journalism Innovation Lab featuring two state-of-the-art multimedia classrooms and a production suite. The Department's AA in Communications and AS in Journalism prepare students to transfer into a baccalaureate program or to seek positions in broadcasting, journalism, public relations, and related fields. A large percentage of the communications and journalism graduates have transferred to four-year institutions. Graduates also have obtained entry-level positions including as film editor, script editor, announcer, cameraman, producer, and news reporter.

Westchester Community College provides accessible, high quality and affordable education to meet the needs of its diverse community. The College is committed to student success, academic excellence and lifelong learning. Westchester Community College is one of 30 community colleges affiliated with the State University of New York (SUNY). The College is sponsored locally by the County of Westchester and serves approximately 24,000 individuals each semester. The College opened in 1946 with the mission of training and educating veterans. The College continues this tradition as a "Veteran Friendly Campus," welcoming those who have served in the nation's armed forces and providing them with extensive services. Courses are offered year-round on the College's Valhalla, NY, campus, as well as at 12 extension sites around Westchester County. In addition to credit courses leading to associate degrees or certificates, the College offers a full range of noncredit courses for students of all ages.

The Pulitzer Center supports an annual fellowship for a WCC student to report on an issue of global or local importance. In August 2022, the Communication, Journalism, & Media Arts Department of Westchester Community College, together with the Pulitzer Center, named the fellowship in memory of Carol Smith Passariello, formerly the Beebe Endowed Faculty Chair of the department. "Our goal is to keep the memory of Carol alive by directly linking her with what she so dearly loved—inspiring our students to tell stories of under-represented communities," her colleague Professor Eric Luther wrote. "She was so very proud of the Student Reporting Fellowship/WCC's relationship with the Pulitzer Center and a driving force behind this valued collaboration that has seen eight recipients so far."

We are pleased to make the "Carol Smith Passariello/Pulitzer Center Student Reporting Fellowship" a Westchester Community College tradition.
