Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is dedicated to advancing the educational and career goals of today's students. Its mission is to "awaken, nurture and empower learners to ethical lives of service and leadership." Founded in 1912, Saint Mary's is a private, Lasallian Catholic, comprehensive institution, with approximately 1,300 traditional undergraduates attending its Winona, Minnesota, campus.

The bulk of Saint Mary's nearly 5,600 students are adult learners in the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs (SGPP), one of the largest graduate schools in Minnesota. SGPP is comprised of the Graduate School of Business & Technology, the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Health & Human Services, and the School of Professional Programs. A pioneer in outreach education since 1984, SGPP offers programs at more than 100 on- and off-campus locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Jamaica and Kenya.

Our long-time media partner, veteran journalist Fred de Sam Lazaro and his Under-Told Stories Project, are housed within Saint Mary's Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership. Fred has reported from almost 50 countries and has worked with PBS NewsHour since 1985. He regularly covers global health, poverty and development, environmental issues, and social entrepreneurship. He led the first American news crew that reported on the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region, and he also directed films from India and the Democratic Republic of Congo for the acclaimed PBS documentary series, Wide Angle.
