National Council for the Social Studies, 88th Annual Conference, Houston, Texas November 14-16

Friday 11/14 10:15 am Jon Sawyer and Nathalie Applewhite will unveil the Pulitzer Gateway, its newly developed, interactive education portal that incorporates documentaries, photography, articles, lesson plans (developed in collaboration with Brown University's Choices program), online student-journalist discussions, and student-generated material in a dynamic, easy-to-use platform. This session is part of the NCSS Documentary Series that presents three provocative and compelling documentary collections from some of the country's most respected documentary production companies. Each film includes a discussion with representatives of the film, plus teaching materials. Over 40 short documentaries tied to larger reporting projects provide windows on a wide range of global issues and are available for classroom use.

Friday 11/14 1:15 pm Jon and Nathalie will again present the Pulitzer Gateway project for a Poster Session and offer lesson plans and fresh ideas on bringing timely global issues and media literacy discussions to students.
