Meredith May received a 2009 Excellence in Journalism Award in the feature writing category from the Society for Professional Journalists for "Saving Nepal's Indentured Girls," which SPJ described as "a story that uses an inspiring local angle to illuminate the international human rights issue of kamlari, the Nepalese practice of bonded servitude."
